50th Year for Family Camp! Don't miss it.

Family Camp is less than three months away at the time of this posting. Please send T-shirt designs for consideration to Vicki Hoffmann. Let's make this happen for such an important family event.

I want to challenge those in the 20 & 30s age-group to design an event for the whole camp. Let's add a new camp activity or event to our traditions this year. Crafts, games, hikes, music, etc. have been categories for special fun in years past. The sillier the better, but I know our "middle generation" of people can come up with something great!

See you all at McCormick's Creek Camp NaWaKwa on June 17-19.

CAMP DATES HAVE CHANGED...AGAIN

Got a call from Indiana DNR reservations people today. Looks like we will have another change in the camp dates. Due to an unusual coincidence in the scheduling system we almost ended up sharing the camp site with a motorcycle group!! VROOM VROOM! Because of the scheduling conflict, I have had to move camp dates to June 17-19. The good news is that we will be in Camp NaWaKwa!! WOO HOO! I will keep you informed of any changes...because you never know what can happen. WOW

Family Camp 2011 Dates

Thanks to everyone for the shared efforts that made Family Camp a success!

It was a great relief to enjoy 75 degrees and sunny with a breeze on Sunday after such a humid Friday and Saturday. That good weather was just the incentive I needed to schedule camp for next year.

Family Camp will be at Camp McCormick in McCormick's Creek on Friday, June 10, 2011 @ 3pm through Sunday, June 12, 2011 @ 11am checkout.

This is a week later in the month than camp was this year. Hopefully, this will be a good weekend for most people. Remember that 2011 camp is the 50th year! Get this on your calendars and encourage all family members to attend.

Now let's hope for great weather and good attendance for Family Camp 2011!

What to take to Family Camp?

What do I need to take with me to Family Camp?

For Cabin: fan or heater?  sleeping bag or just a sheet?
For camp fire: chair or umbrella?
For outdoor fun: swim suit or stocking cap?shoes that can get wet at the falls or a canoe? bicycle or horseshoes? cowboy boots or softball gear? sunscreen & bug spray?
For mess hall fun: poker money or board games? photo albums or dancing shoes?

For kitchen and eating: reusable plastic cups & really good dessert and snacks & soft drinks/beer,

So many choices, and so little time! Camp is just around the corner. Campers! Start your ... planning.

In Memory of Rich Hoffmann

In honor of the memory of Rich Hoffmann, today's post asks you to remember the many times you each spent with Rich, Vicki & Mitch whether at camp or elsewhere. I know I will always remember "Camp Linda Kwa" the year that Vicki & Rich celebrated Rich's birthday the same day as camp. Vicki gave Rich a trip around the Indy 500 race track in a race car!! He was so thrilled, and we all loved hearing about it. Another good memory I recall is from camp when Jean Sherfick was expecting Everett and was about 7 months pregnant. In the camp photo album you can see Jean & Rich standing belly to belly comparing who has the greater girth. Such fun! The end of camp is another moment which always makes me think of Rich. It's that time when the mess hall is empty and leftover food is stacked outside on picnic tables. We are waiting for the DNR folks to come do the check-out inspection. Inside the mess hall, Rich and Mitch are mopping. At this point at camp it is time to say good-bye until next year. Good-bye, Rich, until we meet again.
